PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: TREK'S SPECIAL EDITION CHECKPOINT DRIFTLESS

Trek's Checkpoint gravel bike offers excellent versatility, big tire clearance, and stable, confident handling that have made us fans since its introduction. All of that continues with the new Driftless edition, based on the Checkpoint ALR platform. If you thought "driftless" was some kind of made-up marketing word that was meant to evoke terms such as wanderlust, you weren't the only one. But, those from the American Midwest, specifically Wisconsin, such as a certain large bicycle company, would know that it instead refers to a region that wasn't covered by ice during the last ice age and thus doesn't have any drift, or glacial deposits.

Unlike the soft rolling hills of the midwest, this region features steep valleys and forested slopes, and thus demands more than a standard gravel bike may offer. That's where the Trek Checkpoint Driftless comes in: gone are the front derailleur and left shifter, replaced by a brake lever-actuated dropper post to help you bomb those forested slopes. A frame bag is included so you can carry enough food to make it back. The frame features a unique paintjob, so no one will mistake you for someone from the drift zone. Check out some more pictures of the 54cm Checkpoint Driftless we have in-store below!

Skinwall tires are essential equipment for gravel bikes in 2023.

Not quite sure what that logo is. Fossilized shell? Looks cool.
