FROM THE COLLECTION: SCEPTER TRACK WITH SUNTOUR SUPERBE PRO

This bike is a lot of people's favourite from OBB's collection, and it's easy to see why: a classic American-handmade track frame, loaded with a complete Suntour Superbe Pro Track group. First, a brief history of Scepter, and it will be brief, because there is not a lot of information out there about these bikes. They were handmade in San Diego sometime in the '80s by Bill Holland, a name that will no doubt be familiar to current enthusiasts of handmade frames: he's still building custom bikes today. An article on Speedplay pedals fills in a couple more gaps, mentioning that Scepter bikes were designed by Richard Byrne in the mid-'80s and featured exceptionally steep seattube angles. This particular bike doesn't look that steep to me, but I didn't break out a protractor so maybe that's what an 82-degree seattube looks like.

Complimenting the frame is a full Suntour Superbe Pro Track group, including crankset, hubs, cog, pedals, headset, and bottom bracket. Even though Suntour has been gone for nearly 30 years, these parts are still highly sought after today, and the quality and design easily rivaled Dura Ace when new. Please enjoy the gallery below of this spectacular track bike!

Beautiful Superbe Pro hubs.

Paint by Joe Bell. Cranks by Suntour. BB Shell by Tange.

Impeccably detailed brake bridge. Very nice.

Sugino aero stem. Where's the bolt? You'll have to come by the shop to find it!

Imagine ripping around the velodrome on this.

"This won't fall over, right?"
