a safe and fun team environment. Riders participate in weekly
practices, races and training camps throughout the year. The
program is fun and dynamic. The potential for growth is unlimited.

Bicycles
Oak Bay Junior Cycling welcomes
any girl or boy age 12-14 who has a bicycle. We don’t mind what
bike you bring to practice – as long as you enjoy riding and you
bring your helmet. Our practices normally include road and
off-road riding during the same session. We use short loops that
allow everyone to ride together, regardless of their current fitness
level or equipment. We also play plenty of technique and sprint
games where skill and strategy matter as much as fitness.
In the spring and summer, riders will get the opportunity to ride
and race on the Juan De Fuca velodrome as members of the Greater
Victoria Velodrome Association. Riders will have access to track
bicycles which will allow them to fully explore track cycling.
The Coach
The program is
lead by Head Coach Dan Proulx who is a certified Level 4 NCCP
Cycling coach and professional teacher. Dan is a graduate of the
National Coaching Institute – Calgary and the University of
Victoria’s Professional Teaching Program. He has over 15 years of
professional coaching experience in sport.
Dan has been actively coaching in BC
for the past 5 years. He has worked with a variety of organizations
including the University of Victoria, PacificSport, the Greater
Victoria Velodrome Association and many elite athletes - including
the 2007 Pan American Games Mountain Bike Champion. Recently, Dan
was asked to join Cycling BC as the province's Youth Development
Coach.
Prior to arriving in Victoria, Dan
founded the Olympic Oval National Cycling Center, Junior High
Performance Program. Many of the riders from that program currently
represent Canada as part of the National Cycling Team.
